Description

MCCruise BikeCruise Electronic Cruise Control for Honda CB500X from 2013

Ride further and safer with the MCCruise electronic cruise control, designed specifically for the Honda CB500X from 2013

This precision speed control system enhances your riding experience by allowing you to focus on the road ahead, minimising the need to constantly check your speedometer.

Functionality

The MotorCycle Cruise control works like a car cruise control, it applies and releases the throttle to maintain the current speed when the SET button is pressed, typically within less than +/- 2kph under normal circumstances.

The current SET speed can be stepped up or down using the SET/ACCLERATE or RESUME/DECELERATE buttons, the standard speed change per press is 2kph, this speed change can be changed by the user to 1kph, 2kph, 1mph and 2mph per press. Or you can press and HOLD the SET or RESUME buttons to gently increase or decrease the speed, and when the button is released, the current speed is adopted as the set speed.

The accelerate or decelerate functions of the SET and RESUME buttons can be changed by the user to SET/DECELERATE and RESUME/ACCELERATE if desired.

Cruise Stop Functions

Both front and rear brake will disengage the cruise control instantly.

On all manual shift bikes, slipping the clutch will disengage the cruise control when the engine rpm rises or falls about 500 to 1000 rpm (15% variation).  This amount of allowed rpm variation is selectable by the user from 10% to 50% if the user wants to change the amount of rpm variation allowed.  The 15% variation will usually allow one gear shift up or down without disengaging the cruise control, two shifts up or down will disengage the cruise control.

On most models pulling the clutch in all the way will disengage the cruise control.  This does not apply to some older BMW and Harley Davidson cruise control models.

The ON-OFF (power) button is also a COAST button, pressing this button when the cruise control is engaged will disengage the cruise control without turning it off.

Control Switches

All our cruise control switches have backlight buttons for night use and an indicator light showing power on and cruise control engaged or disengaged states.

All adjustments and settings for the cruise control are performed using the control switch buttons.  No special tools are required.

Important Note: Ensure compatibility with your vehicle’s handlebars and make adjustments if needed. If your setup differs, contact us to explore alternative solutions or modifications.

Experience safety and precision with MCCruise BikeCruise — where comfort meets performance on every ride.

NOTE: We have not seen the 2022 model, but a customer has fitted a cruise to one and given us information about the differences. The main difference is how the body work comes off. There is an excellent video of the disassembly process on YouTube by Rally Raid that shows how to remove the seat, side covers and fairing. We believe removing the fuel tank is pretty much the same as the earlier models.  We do have some photos of the disassembly process in the installation manual, but have not done disassembly of the 2022 model in our workshop. The only other difference is a minor change to the wiring harness, the type of connector used for the rear brake light switch connection is different.

NOTE FOR BIKES WITH CRASH BARS: If your bike has crash bars fitted, compare the photos in the brochure or installation manual to your bike to see if there will be any issues with mounting the cruise control throttle servo and CIU.  We have not seen a bike fitted with Honda crash bars.  We have details and photos of the cruise fitted to a bike with SW-Motek crash bars.  The only difference is a slight change to the mounting of the cruise control throttle servo and CIU.  We have the parts required in stock and can provide info on how to fit the throttle servo and CIU if you have SW-Motek crash bars on your bike.  There are also other makes of crash bar for this model which we have not seen.  Contact us for information about workarounds for bikes with crash bars.

If your bike is fitted with (or you plan to fit) LED brake lights or a brake-light modulator, then a modification to the wiring harness is required to make the cruise control work. Please select the LED brake light option before adding your purchase to the cart.

  1. Steve S (verified owner)

I would like to share my very positive experience with McCruise, both as a company and the first class product. I bought the system for my Honda CB500X hoping that it would allow me to keep riding with worsening arthritis in my hands and elbows. This made holding onto the throttle for more than ten minutes or so increasingly painful and forced me off bikes four years ago. Then my wife pointed out that I was only going to get older, so if I was going to get another bike, perhaps I should do it now.
I was already aware of McCruise and wondered if it could help me ride further, so having bought the bike, the very first thing I did was order the McCruise system, which arrived just three days later.
The instructions, with plenty of photographs, were thorough and accurate, also easy to follow. Installation took three days on and off, because I took my time and thought carefully about where to route the cabling. I hit a snag near the end though, so fired off an email to McCruise. It was Sunday so I hoped for a reply Mon/Tues. However, just a short while later, I got a call from McCruise with an offer to talk me through the problem – on a Sunday!
Within 30mins the issue was resolved. I hadn’t adjusted the throttle cables correctly. Now THAT is customer service and dedication to your product.
Soon afterwards I was on the road to test it out. Having tried various ‘throttle lock’ products and found them mostly useless, I had high hopes. I was blown away. The McCruise system operates flawlessly, just like in a car. I find myself using it most of the time, to give my throttle arm a break, avoid speeding tickets and simply so I don’t have to check my speed all the time. Unlike throttle locks, which cause you to slow down on uphills then overspeed down the other side, the McCruise maintains set speed just like in a car, applying throttle uphill where necessary and shutting the throttle downhill. It really is a superb riding aid, especially for older riders and those who do long distances.
I highly recommend both the company and the product. 10/10

I should have reviewed this far earlier. I’ve had Mc Cruise control on my CB500X for well over a year now and it has performed flawlessly. It has completely transformed the bike for both long distance travel and even short trips. I’m fortunate enough to live in Melbourne so had the system installed at the MC Cruise factory in less than a day, they also adjusted my speedo for accurate speed when compared to GPS. I plan on having this fitted to every bike I get from now on. Thanks MC Cruise.
